“When I was a medical student, my internship in Burkina Faso drastically changed the course of my life… Two seemingly small events transformed me in unexpected ways. First, I saw a tiny kora decoration at a market in Burkina Faso. Then I heard the song ‘Djorolen’ by Oumou Sangaré (Mali). From those two moments, I became absolutely convinced that I had to go to Mali and learn to play the kora.
So I did — and I never regretted it. Since then, I’ve been on a long musical journey, from West African traditions to Indian and European folk music, even touching on Azerbaijani and Kazakh musical worlds…”
